With USA credits like TREME & THE WIRE, it was logical for HBO Europe to turn to Oscar-nominated Polish director Agnieszka Holland to create this tense mini-series about the Soviet crackdown on Czechoslovakia in 1968. Yes!
The main character, “Dagmar Burešová,” is based on a real woman who represented the family of Jan Palach in a libel suit after he killed himself.
In her professional role, Burešová interacts with Jan Palach’s mother, a key [female] witness for the defense, and the [female] judge.
At home, however, Burešová is also the mother of two young daughters!
